History

Estudiantes Tecos(Owls), which has its current name since 2009, represents one of the two top universities in Guadalajara, the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara.

Previously known as Tecos UAG, who are participating in their third InterLiga (2007 and 2009), the club was established on July 5, 1971.

Among their most notable accomplishments is the league championship title in the 1993-1994 season lead by head coach Víctor Manuel Vucetich.

In addition, the institution is remembered for being crowned champion of the Third Division in its second season in 1972-1973 and two years later it was rewarded with promotion to the First Division of Mexican soccer, lead by head coaches Donaldo Ross and Raúl "Pina" Arellano.

The most distinguished players in the history of Estudiantes Tecos are Hugo Enrique Kiese, Javier "Chícharo" Hernández, Osmar Donizete, Marcelo Goncalvez, José Luis "Oso" Salazar, Sebastián "Loco" Abreu and Jesús Corona.

The current roster, led by head coach Miguel Herrera, counts with players like Damián Zamogilny, Carlos Morales and Diego "El Tepa" Jiménez, a defender with great potential that has adapted as a starter for Estudiantes, after spending the 2008 season with the New York Red Bulls and being part of the MLS Cup run.

Tercera División is Mexico's fourth tier in the Mexican League System. The Tercera División (Third Division) is divided into 15 groups. For the 2009/2010 season, the format of the tournament has been reorganized to a home and away format, which all teams will play in their respected group. The 15 groups consist of teams who are eligible for promotion, teams who are affiliated with teams in the Primera División and Liga de Ascenso (Primera División A), which are not eligible for promotion and teams for a promotional tournament, which make up group 15 and are not eligible for promotion as well.
